I bought a 1986 Honda XL600R new from the dealer in Long Beach, CA for $2,800. Sold it for 1,500 in 1985. Loved it so much that I decided to buy another in 1014. Searched the internet for a year and missed getting a couple of good deals around $1,500 in great shape. Finally got desperate and bought one on eBay for $800. The guy said it ran great and was street legal. When it arrived from CA to OR ($300 shipping) it wouldn´t start and all the street equip. was missing. Took it to Honda World in OR had the upper end rebuilt for $945 before they said they didn´t want to work on it anymore. Took it to Parker´s ATV & Cycle to install new tires, sprockets, battery, blinkers, mirrors, etc. to make it street legal, another $1,200. They couldn´t keep it running so I spent another $350 for a Ricky Stator and RegulatorRectifier a new CDI unit and Ignition coil. Runs great now and I feel like it is finally reliable. I think it was worth the expense considering that the price of the bike doubled 3 years after I bought it. |
