1981 xl500s needing transmission countershaft 28T

I am attempting to restore my bike for a road trip from Sacramento, California to Central America and hit a wall for parts, everything is available except the transmission countershaft. Spun it off when the sprocket gave and eroded both the shaft and sprocket. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
