Top end rebuild??

i bought a 1986 Honda XL 250R for 200 dollars overall the bike is in good condition as far as the suspension brakes and body go but the man took apart the top end and the cam and chain have been removed but he never got around to finishing the rebuild i would love any diagrams or suggestions you may have this is my first time dealing with a honda. Thanks
