Neutral Control

I took my bike out for spin 2 weeks ago and everything was A-OK. Yesterday it started fine, but when I dropped it into gear it died, shift back to neutral, starts great and runs until I put it in gear. I have to clean out a mouse nest from the air cleaner and was wondering if they may have chewed a wire to the neutral control switch, if so where should I look, or could the switch have dired, the bike has 2042 miles on it. Ya I know i don´t ride it enough.
