In the helicopter industry we have plexi windshields - super expense - and condition was a real safety factor. Basic routine was soften up bugs and grit with warm water - wash with warm water and dish soap - and polish with lemon pledge and a soft cloth.

While you doing that you mays a well wash and polish the rest of the bike. That gets you hands on - removes grit - ID´s any loose bolts or screws - and polish with the pledge.
