I found the same with 5,400 mi. It had been sitting since 2002 so the main tank mostly was horribly gunked. I´ve had to take it out and am trying my best to clean it for the fuel flow to be reliable. I couldn´t find any new tanks on-line so it´s a work of love...fortunately no metal break-down. It´s a great bike, enjoy.
