the vtr is an excellent motorcycle; however, there are several drawbacks to vtr ownership...vtrs are very hard on chains and cush rubbers... vtrs are also hard on rear tyres. the vtr has relatively weak front forks and the breaks are not cutting edge. the vtr is, however, one of the most rewarding and easy bikes to ride...it has a beautiful mid-range and a exhaust note to die for (especially with a set of art high-level race cans on board. i had a vtr for approximately one year and enjoyed every moment of ownership...fuel cunsumption aside! as a fun motorcycle, the vtr gets my vote but with reservations. the vfr 800 vtec, is an altogether different kettle of fish...it has every creature comfort you could ever need...its engine is a flyer once you have clocked up 12000 miles or so. the vfr is extremely comfortable and it will return 50 mpg if you are careful. the vfr dashboard is fully comprehensive and the lights are phenomenal! there really isn´t anything to put you off vfr ownership at all - in short, the vfr vtec is the best all -round motorcycle on this or any other possible world. as has been said many times before, if God let the world have any motorbike chosen by human free will...many would be tried and tested, but at the end of the day, the vfr vtec would get the vote. i have had many motocycles over the last few years and i have to say that apart from the vfr vtec, the honda blackbird stands out as possibly the most refined package i have ever owned. the vfr vtec has not yet caught on...but it is only a matter of time before the race-rep junkies catch themselves on and buy a bike that really can deliver all the thrills you will ever need. my advice to anyone contemplating a vtr as oposed to a vfr vtec is to ´catch yourself on´ and go and do the right thing! you will never regret such a choice john laverty |
