I have owned a 1984 V65 Sabre since 1989. absolutely trouble free for 55k miles. I went down with it due to a front brake prob. Minor damage- no big deal. It ran fine after. On a highway test run soon after I lost 2 cylinders for a sec. 5 miles later I lost them again and then lost fuel pump operation. Turns out I lost cyl 2+4 whose spark unit is tied to the fuel cut relay. I have replaced fuel cut relay and the spark unit(used- no longer made) in that order. All tests in the shop manual point to the spark unit. All wiring is as it should be. Bike runs on 1+3 if i power the fuel pump directly. Swapped the coils-both ok. Tested pulse generators and checked air gap-all ok. Does anyone know what type of signals the spark unit/module is supposed to send out to both the fuel cut relay and the coil? Could I have smoked the fuel relay with the bad spark unit? I get 12v @ the fuel relay from both the spark unit and the rectifier as soon as i turn the key on- which doesnt seem right- and no signal comes out to feed fuel pump. and no spark to the front cylinders. I´ve talked with dealers but no one old enough to know whats supposed to happen with this unique operating system. And the manual shows no test for the spark unit itself.Any insight is very welcome.
