I own the same with only 1200 miles on it. But, found that with older metal tanks you tend to get rust and other crap into the carborator fowling needle valves and general smooth operation. I ended up buying a new (serial #´s match) carborator on E-Bay and solved all my probs. Start with the needle valves or maybe a full carb Kit. After that check the basics; Spark and Fuel flow.
