Adjusting the carbs on my shadow??

Hello guys. I own a 1996 Honda Shadow Ace 1100 vt. The owner before me drilled 2 1/4 holes in the exhaust pipe. I´m asumming he did that to make the bike a little louder. Well I don´t think he tuned the carbs when he drilled those holes. When I start off in first gear the bike throttle has a dead point. I really have to give it throttle to prevent it from stalling. I would like to know how I go about tuning up my carbs so it doesn´t do that anymore. Anybody with infor please help me out. Thanks very much
