2001 Honda Shadow Vt1100 Sabre won´t stay running |

Hello. First time posting to a forum, but I´ve reached a point where I need help. Background: (not necessary to read, but background if you want it) This is the first bike I ever bought and I´ve owned it for 16 years, only bike I´ve ever owned. I love this bike. I bought a motorcycle instead of a first car. I do all my own maintenance and prefer to do all my own work. It was my only vehicle until children. It started faithfully every single year, until recently. I´ve driven it half way across the US and back on several occasions. 3 years ago I had to have both knees completely restructured and was unable to walk. Last ride was the summer of 2021. Went in for surgery and was down for a long time unable to stand. Finally, able to stand at the end of last summer I go to start it. No go. Fall of 2021 I get it going and make it around the block, but it´s a bad run. Get back and she won´t stay running. The issue: I read and read and read about what the problem could be. The bike will start with choke fully on and will run with very little throttle. Choke goes off slightly, it dies. Too much throttle, it dies. Runs for more than 20 seconds with barely any throttle, it dies. Read several similar cases. So I went out work. The work: Replaced all the spark plugs. Replaced the air filter; found a mouse nest in here and was hoping that was the problem. Each fix or replace I attempted to start and same problem persists. I tooke the carburetor out and cleaned the whole thing and rebuilt with new parts. While tank a was off I drained it and intended to clean it, but inspection seemed to show it in good shape. Kit also came with new fuel switch and fuel filter, changed those as well. And then bought a new battery for good measure. Now: Bike is still acting as before. Starts...sometimes. When it does choke us fully on and needs a little throttle to get going. However, it still dies shortly after. Maybe I just need to be patient, but I´m itching to ride. Any suggestions on other troubleshooting I could do? |
