I have a ´96 ACE 1100 and I´m about the same height/weight as you. I bought my bike in June 2002 after a 7-year "vacation" from riding. My previous bike was a ´78 Honda Hawk 400 (still have it!) that I had ridden since my college days. The Hawk weighs in at only 350 lbs., so it took a little while to get used to the greater bulk (225 lbs. more) and acceleration capability of the ACE. I just took it easy with my early rides on the ACE and I am now completely comforatble on it. I have put almost 9,000 miles on it in a season and a half, and I often do 300 - 400 mile days. If you ride within the limits of your ability, it is not too much (or too little) of a bike for someone your size. Remember...There´s no such thing as an OLD stupid biker. Stupid bikers never get to be OLD!!! Ride smart and become a happpy OLD biker!!
Other thoughts...The best upgrade you can make to the bike is an aftermarket saddle. I put on a Saddleman by Travelcade, Explorer model. It looks WAY better than the stock "tractor seat" and it is way more comforatble. Kuryakan ISO-grips are also highly recommended since the stock solid rubber grip transmit a fair amount of vibration, especially on the throttle side. Good luck. Ride safe.
