I used to own a spirit 750... to much power?? no not at all if you were comfortable on the MSF bikes this is heavier but the power is not an issue. SPend more time thinking about riding position and your ability to control the bike through turns and braking... That being said the spirit has abouit 46 hp and about the same torque... with a dry waight of about 500 pounds... my curent bike an SV1000s has 120 hp 72 pounds of torque and weighs about 370 lbs dry.... that is a lot of power... and definitly not for beginners... THE best bike I have seen for beginers is the suzuki GS500 supper light very light on the power. SUPER easy to handle and stop. can be picked up pretty cheap used... it is not a bike that will get you miles of respect on the street but if you really care about learning how to ride and being proficcnet a standard bike is way better then any cruiser or sport bike...... you are up right your feet ar more or less beloow you..which aids in mobility necessary for abeginner to balance the bike through turns.... the streached out postition on the cruisers means that you are lot less mobile and will have a difficult time gettting your butt up while going over bumps and will be dificult to counter balance during slow parking lot maneuvers .. Cruisers are also a lot less forgiving... to emergency brakign and sudden directional changes.... learn on a standard and then you can pimp on your big bad chopper!! A more juicey alternative. SV650 (i had one too) may be the single most balanced bike out there..it has more punch then a gs500 but it also has a completely linear power band, great torque amazing usability in turns, braking and can be coaxed up to 135(if you feel you must) after getting the SV650 I couldn;t stand to ride my spirit any more and I put over 3 grand into modding the spirit... but it still couldnĀ“t do half of what the SV650 was capable just out of the box. and get this the SV650 and the spirit cost the same!! good luck!! with what ever you deside. one other thing when buying a bike cyclebuy.com ... has probably saved me over 2000 on my 3 bike purchases... enjoy... |
