they came along in the US right after the legandary XL line ended in ´87. some say to replace it but I have found that Austrailia got an ´88 XL250R! it wasnt the previous dual-carbed RFVC, it had the same twin-cam engine! as far as I know these are the only Hondas with this unique engine.

I looked for two years to find one near enough to me to purchase, just found one a few weeks ago. Ive exhausted every internet search I know of and have found little info on the 250, more on the 650 but doenst help me. where are the forums youve found?
