My Ax-1, which happens to be the Japan-only version of the Nx, was bought in the spring of 2001 for exactly 950 Us dollars. The bike looks awesome, and drives like a dream. Its nimble size makes for barrels of laughs in-city driving, and the engine pulls surprisingly hard for a 250. But best of all on the bike are the discbrakes...My Ax-1 had discs both front and rear as opposed to your bikes. Plenty of grab and plenty of feel. From my experience the bikes can be stone-reliable,while others arent. Main problem on the bike are the electrics. Some last a lifetime others. Engine is built like a rock though.Overall id give it a 8.5 over 10.
The things i didnt like...Its low seat height, makes for killer backpains if youre tall and ride alot, but i cured my rear suspension with a homemade linkage that made it sit much higher than stock. The suspension is a joke...Attempt to take this bike offroad and youre begging for trouble. The rear shock will almost bottom out on the bikes weight alone.Waaaay too soft and cheapo stuff. Non-adjustable. Its geared way too low for my taste. 13/41 gearing was mine...But thats what makes it so pokey in-city driving.
And ill have to disagree with the previous posting by Mjr. Rage, about doing 130 all day long...The bike is geared realtively low, and at 100km/h the mill will be running at 6000rpm, 110km/h at 7000rpm and so forth. At 130km/h (which is just about as much as youll get out of the bike) its screaming at redline 8000rpm, which is allright if its done for short stretches...But all day??? I dont think so...
Sold mine Last summer for 300 bucks (nothing wrong with it, just needed cash...And it was sold in Beirut)...Now im saving up for a SuperMotard.
Preferably a Ktm Duke 2
