The new NT700V Deauville replaces the late 90´s vintage original model. This bike (designed for and sold mainly in Europe) is basically a scaled down ST 1300 Pan European. In other words, it has been concevived as a confortable and affordable two up tourer that can also be (relatively easily) used as a commuter and town bike. The new Deauville shows major improvements over the original: chief among them is that its twin-cylinder, water-cooled mill has gained some 80 additional cc´s and now delivers some 70HP with good mid-rev torque and a smooth, low-vibes operation. The 5-gear box is well adjusted to the power-plant and gives adequate progression. In normal highway conditions one doens´t have to work the box excessively, although a little more effort is needed when tackling twisting secondary roads --or snaking around city traffic. The power is deliverd through a cardan shaft which provides extra smoothness and is quasi-maintenance free. The Deaville comes whith a 2/3rds tourer fairing and a two-position hand-adjustable windshield. This configuration can be further improved with several additions to provide enhanced long-haul protection from the elements. The seating is confortable for the pilot and well above average for the passenger. Two (now connected) fixed carrying cases allow easy stowage of every-day gear and (optional) expanded case-lids add to the bike´s touring capability. An optional large top-case is available which further increases the Deauville´s touring trim and creates a snug and confortable backrest for the passenger.
