My step brother had a new one to ride to work on when he was 15. He soon out grew it and bought a dt 175. He was to big for it anyway. It was the cheapest bike with reg.at the time, about $550aus. I was 7 when he taught me to ride it. Miles and miles of space to ride in back then. On a flat level track the jap speedo would make it to 80kph with a sprat jockey. A totally gay machine but a good beginners bike nonetheless. One local primary school gangster hooligan had a yz 80d he´d let me ride cos he liked to do wheelies on mine. we used to ride around the outer suburbs and empty land. Yz´s, rm´s, never saw a cr or kx ´til much later, xr 75´s, mr 50´s and one Suzuki 90cc trail. These kids were a few years older but I had a ride so I was there. This was before the E model made everything look slow.
