I experienced the same thing. I have eliminated the 7 square and immediate dropping to 7 squares by topping off the tank after burping the air from it. If you let the pump auto-shutoff mechanism determine when to stop filling you will only get to 7 squares because the tip of the nozzle is too deep in the tank. If the pump has the vapor recovery sleeve on it, you must lift the nozzle tip slightly above the rim of the tank and pull back the sleeve and then top off the tank to the very bottom of the filler hole.(DonĀ“t overfill if it is a hot day and you are not immediately riding enough distance to burn some of the fuel. You need a little room for expansion. Hint: aftermarket part suppliers sell a clip that stores on your key chain to hold back the recovery sleeve while you fill up. However, before you top off, stand the bike straight up and wiggle the bike a little. When the bike is on the side stand, you are trapping a big air bubble in the right side (high side) of the tank. When you stand it straight up before topping off you will make room for the 8th square gas. You might get the same result by filling up on the center stand. You would eliminate the right side air bubble but might create one in the front or back of the tank. My center stand is removed so I have not verified the center stand method. Hope this helps.
