I have 45000 km on my 2001 GL1800. 2 minor problems that should be fixed before they get worse.1) - the trunk lid wears against the box. Eventually enough gelcoat is removed to become visible with lid closed. Fix by placing smalt self stick felt pads around the top edge of the box so the lid rests on them. 2) - Both my latches broke securing the covers on the small front fairing compartments. The root cause is the tapered screw securing the latch mechanism. It will eventually cause the small plastic hub it is screwed into to break. This is moulded with the compartment - new compartment required. Fix before it breaks by removing the compartment. The left side is easy. Just remove the tapered screw holding the latch in place & drill a small hole through the hub & into the compartment. Insert a small machine screw from inside the compartment and secure with a lock nut. Do not over tighten. Repeat this procedure with the other half of the mechanism. Warrenty repaired my right compartment & I havenĀ“t re-examined it yet but will soon before it breaks again. |
