All, bare with me as I am a new bike owner with lots to learn. I am trying to identify a VN 400 that I bought several weeks ago. It was imported from Japan to Australia. It has been complianced as a 1988 VN400. However trying to identify it exactly has been difficult because it has been customised ( bobberd and different tank bars etc). I have tried to locate the VIN, but the number on the front steering column on the frame is only 12 digits and not 17ยด. It starts as VN 400...... I suspect that this is a frame number. This was also quoted as the VIN number when imported. Looking everywhere online the side battery part that I am sourcing is quoted for 1996 - 2005 models which has me wondering if my bike is later than what it has been recorded as. It has a chain drive and 5 sipped gear box which suggests it is a series 2. As this is the first time on the forum I am not sure if I can load any pics. I am happy to email some if anyone contacts me.
