I have over 80,000 km on my ´82 Silverwing and have never had a clutch issue. I ran it for years on with synthetic oil, when I lived on the prairies (rode it regularly at temperatures as low as -20C; the synthetic really helps with the cold starting).

If it´s any consolation, I had a clutch in a used car once that started slipping shortly after I bought it. For about a year I was very careful with the clutch, and only used it for starts (i.e., I shifted without the clutch). It seemed to slowly repair itself, somehow, and I gradually went back to driving it normally. I put another 150,000 km on that car without ever having to change the clutch.
