point gap is .012 to .016 inch, and dwell is 87.5 to 92.5 degrees. [never adjust gap without adusting timing and dwell, as they all effect one another.] timing is 10 deg. btdc @ 950rpm [idle], and 37.5 deg. btdc @ 2300 to 2600rpm. These numbers are for ´78 & ´79 GL-1000´s only. If you need more info, get a Clymer manual. It can help you tune, maintain, or rebuild your bike. Enjoy your ´78, I LOVE mine!
