Tappet sound

I bought a used Honda FTR 223 (Chassy 160xxxxx) yesterday and it has run around 12000 kms by now... I hear a small tappet kind of sound inside the engine... So what can be the reason for this. Feel like the temperature also is too much (Don´t know haven´t used FTRs before to compare)... Logical wise answers are welcome......!!!
