Just returned from a 2000 mile trip Ohio to Georgia and back, on rural roads. My son rode the 82 FT-500 and had no problem staying with 800 and 1000cc sport touring bikes. He even led the group on the Tail of the Dragon (open from the East side). Bought the FT-500 new, and it is still like new (just weeps a bit on oil from the head). Have a spare parts bike but never needed anything from it. Great ride!!!
