I had an ´82 FT 500 Ascot. I enjoyed the bike, a lot of fun to ride. I had to force myself to stop doing distance wheelies after the second ticket. I bought it Corpus Christy, TX and added a Vetter Quicksilver faring. I road it all over Texas while riding with The Gypsy M/C Club. Even road round trip from Texas to Vermont. Then I was tranfered to California and continued my quest for the perfect road.
Had a little trouble with my FT. The cam chain tensioner would sometimes catch when the engine was cold and allow the cam chain to rattle but would release after a bit. The base cylinder gasket leaked when the FT was a year old even after I retorqued the head. I removed the top-end to replace the gasket and tentioner. I gooped the gasket with gasket shellac and problems solved. The tachometer drive
