Alas, woe is me.... I recently bought a 1980 CX-500 Custom, 27k miles, my fave all-time bike.(I had one of the first 1,000 sold in the US, 1978, and rode it from the east coast to the west coast and back two summers in a row.) Found and bought a cx-500 gas tank from ebay, brand new and in the original honda carton. (The old tank is fine but has an amateur paint job and I want a restoration to factory look.)BUT it must be a later year, because exterior and mounts are exactly the same dimensions but they must have modified it for more fuel capacity - the underbelly is fatter. There are two black electrical coils under the tank that disallow me from lowering the new tank into position. Some have suggested that I get a big hammer and pound it out to make it fit....which I will do if that´s the only option but I sure would love to keep that extra gas capacity. OK OK to the point! Does anyone know what those black coils are and whether they could be relocated???? Thanks. |
