Hope you can figure it out, I bought a 79 cx500 and had sort of the same symptoms and I took it to a guy in my neighbor hood who works on bikes and he took the valve covers off and cleaned it out and now it run like a dream. If you find it is electrical I have lots of spare parts and would get rid of them next to nothing. When i bought my bike the guy gave me a parts bike too. almost complete.
