I solved my issue! Not suprisingly it was a blocked idle jet. What threw me off was that the stock exhaust system acts as a VERY real crossover system. It turns out that the sound that you hear from either side, mostly comes from the other side. I was sure that it was the right side that was balking and only coming alive at higher RPMs. On that basis I concentrated my efforts on the left side. I solved the problem by holding onto the exhaust pipes during warm up.
