Bryan, I have three 1982 Honda CM 250´s, I also love them. My first one did go 80,000 miles, my mechanic said the engine´s mounting brackets tore causing a leak. He insists he could repair the engine but I bought a parts bike in excellent condition and had the mechanic transfer over the engine and whatever parts he felt the bike needed. I now have another 24,000 miles on the 2nd engine. The frame has 104,000 miles. Bike still runs great. Last summer I found another 1982 Honda CM 250. It had only 3100 miles and was kept in show room condition. I have already put on another 3000 miles on it and now I try to keep two of the three bikes in running condition all year long. I have nearly exhausted all spare parts from the parts bike. I do a lot of the work myself. I find it fairly easy to work on the bike with a shop manual. I bought the Honda shop manual. As far as used parts on line, I would suggest you try buying another CM 250 in fair to good condition for all of its parts, you would save big in the long run. I find the bike to be very reliable but if you do not want to get stuck I would suggest carrying an extra clutch cable and store it under the seat, also carry and extra ignition switch. Those two items have stranded me a few times and by carrying these parts, I can ride worry free. By having a spare clutch cable on hand, I was able to change the broken cable and be off and riding in 35 minutes. I often tell other riders that any bike larger than a 250 is a waste. I get 82 miles to the gallon. My insurance rates are very low and I strongly believe dollar for dollar noone gets more bang for their motorcycle buck than me. I live in the St. Louis area. Where do you call home? |
