I am so proud of my 1982 CM 250 custom. It has given me great service. I have ridden it since new. I put 80000 on the first engine, and have over 20000 on my second engine. The first engine still runs but the engine mounts broke. This bike is easy to work on. Has been very low maintenance. I lube my chain ofen and had over 50000 on my first chain and about the same on my present chain. I never had to replace clutch or overhaul the engine. I change oil every 1000 miles. Brakes are easy to replace. Clutch cable is an item that can go. I now carry a clutch cable under my seat. The ignition switch has been replaced several times due to my numerous short trips. I now carry a spare ignition switch with me. This bike is easy to ride, nimble and has all the power you need to have fun and not get yourself into trouble. I have gotten as high as 95 miles to gallon. Now average 82. I have ridden it as fast as 76 miles an hour but if you want it to last I suggest no more than 68 miles an hour. It seems to cruise nicely between 35 and 50. My original goal was to ride it for 20 years. I now need to set a new goal. If anyone is looking to sell please e-mail me. Ira |
