Short Answer: A stock 1999 Fireblade can post times from about 10.55 to 11.55 sec. If you’re willing to put some work (and cash) into it you can easily break into the 9 second range. Long Answer: If you’re looking to use a Fireblade as a quarter mile bike I’d highly recommend you fit it with a steering damper to help smooth out the transition as the front wheel comes back down. I found that my front wheel would swing side to side 3 to 4 times after a high speed wheelie (not a tank slapper just a moment of vagueness in the control as the front end sorts out its line). In my case a damper and some after market racing forks fixed this problem. You could also switch out the stock 17 tooth master gear with a 16 tooth one to give yourself a bit more off the line and of course any engine up grades will be money well spent. If money is no object there is a turbo package available for it that I’ve heard can bring the Hp up around the 200+ range. That said if all you won’t to do with a Fireblade is quarter miles you’re going to miss out on the best part of this bike. This bike was made to ride hard so take it out to a mountain road full of switch backs and cut it loose. Nothing will get you blood bumping like throwing this bike from side to side through tight corners with one knee down on the tarmac, just before pulling out to overtake a pack of 600s on the rear wheel down a state. P.S. Always ride to your abilities and the conditions. You can’t brag about it if you’re dead. |
