I have a 95 f3 stunt bike, and I love it. 905 stunt cage and 12 bar, custom cut thrust company sprockets and 520 chain, lsl speigler handlebar conversion kit, and 08 600rr front master cyl. I´m running a lot more mods than that, but those are the ones for stunting, the rest are to have just enough equipment to keep her street legal. My sprockets are -1/+9, and this thing wants to hop when I try to clutch her up in 5th. 2nd and 3rd gear power wheelies are possible, and clutch ups are nothing. On an F3 you don´t need to close and yank the throttle to get some air, a simple power wheelie will get the bike to rotate on the rear wheel. I used to have a video that I would link to, but I can´t seem to find it now... It was for supermotos, but the idea is the same. Get into first gear, accelerate at a brisk pace, not full throttle, but maybe about 1/3 to 2/5s throttle, not quite half throttle. Once you hit around 20-35 mph, or around 5750-6500 rpm, quickly open the throttle. DO NOT yank the throttle open, don´t even snap it open, simply increase the rate at which you are opening the throttle. It will take more than a couple of tries, but you will know exactly what I´m talking about when the front wheel comes up... The first couple of times the front end comes up, you WILL panic, which is normal... sometimes on first gear clutch ups, I still want to empty my bowels when she comes up faster than I´m expecting. It happens. Just remember two things. Easy on the rear brake, VERY easy, or very easy off the throttle, and you will be back on two wheels in no time. Don´t jump into clutch ups, or stand ups, don´t yank the bars, and using the front suspension to bounce it up isn´t THAT effective, unless you know exactly what you are doing to begin with. Don´t worry about hitting balance point any time soon. Just worry about getting the front off of the ground. A good idea of when to open the throttle quicker is when you are accelerating quickly and the front end feels like it is starting to expand a little, which it will do as low as 5k rpm, however, you want to wait a tiny bit after that to open up so that the front end has time to actually start decompressing the suspension. Learning to wheelie properly is all about smooth gentle movements and taking ones time. Don´t try to over do it. And one last important tip. ALWAYS WEAR THE PROPER GEAR! No matter how cool it might look to wheelie in a dirt bike helmet and jeans with no shirt, it never feels cool to lose large patches of skin.. I wear an icon field armor chest and back plate and arm guards over an underarmor long sleeve shirt with a motocross jersey over the top. Tends to be better protection for what I am doing at low speeds than a jacket with the foam armor. I also wear a real full face helmet (afx fx-37ds), good gloves (Alpinestars sp-x´s) and good shoes (Alpinestars One-o-Ones). One my legs, I wear jeans that are about a size and a half too big for the freedom of movement, but depending on how hard I want to play, I wear either thick long underarmor pants underneath, or I wear the under armor and the icon knee and shin guards under my jeans as well. Stay safe, and go have some fun. |
