This bike will come right up in 1st gear with no problelm @ 5-10 grand. There is however a nice sweet spot at about 7500 where the power really starts to come on. If you close the the throttle quick and give the forks a good punch before pulling it up it will stand up nice and smooth in 2nd gear.
