Magneto problems?

My bike will run for an hour or so but when I go to shut it off it will not start up. I charged the battery but it will only runs for a few miles before it shuts off. I then have to keep the rpms around 4000 so it doesn´t die after I get it started again. Has anyone else had problems with this and if so what would be the solution. Thanx!
