Well just don´t overfill the crankcase past the oil sight line. Overfilling the case is universally bad for just about any engine made.

Most like the cause of the ticking sound (in a non abused bike) is the CCT. It is the one weak area in the Honda 600 engines. Not hard to replace and will cure the ticking. Also you can continue to ride the bike for a long time with the CCT slowling getting worse and not do any damage to the engine. I would not let it get too bad though before you replace it. Go for a aftermarket manual CCT and you won´t ever have to replace it again.
