I have a 2003 Nighthawk, the highest speed I have been up to is 100 MPH with the Tach at 7,000 RPM. Red Line is 8,500 RPM.

Since I am the original owner, I know the bike is OEM original spec.

Sounds like someone changed the drive sprocket at one time and put a replacement in with more teeth than the original spec drive sprocket.
