bob I have a 77 550 four k and on my bike it did the same thing the float valves have a little rubber tip on them they go bad over time. If fuel (with out stable) was left in the carbs to long (a month or more)then you will need to clean your carbs. After all that synch your carbs #2 should be the base carb the others have screw+locknuts under the top cover of the carbs.let me know how it goes DJ
