I have been riding a cb 500 now since 2000 and can honestly say that i am proud to be the owner of one. It is a bike i bought second hand from a mate. This bike and i have had some great adventures togeather one of which was to my home place in Ireland last year from where i now live in Belgium. I rode the 500 at top speed for more than 2 hours through England roughly 125 mph without so much as a grumble from my faitfull friend. Leaving Dover at 12:15 am i got into Swanzea at 5 am the same morning ´damn good going i thought :-)´ By that evening i had arrived at my parents home in Ireland after traveling about 800 miles without so much as an indication that the bike was even getting too warm. The trip back to Belgium was equaly as enjoyable and through out the whole trip i had only one complaint about the bike and that was that it has no wind shield ´but hey!´ they are ugly things anyway. My bike has now got almost 40,000 miles up and still starts like she was new, first time every time, and when i change the oil what i put in is what comes out she burns nothing even after 6 years of good driving. The light weight of the bike also means that it isn´t hard on tyres and also gives great handeling in traffic, although a side wind can put things looking a bit slanted. So, if you are a cb500 owner looking for advice or thinking of buying one then the only advice i can think of giving is look after her and she will look after you, change the oil on time every time and don´t try saving a few pence there, use a good semi senthetic. If you find after a while that the bike aint as fast as you would like it, sell it, don´t go trying to tune it up and messing arround with the engine because it won´t put up with it after all it is only a two cylinder engine and wasn´t made for racing. Let her on her way to her new owner who will be as happy with it as i am with mine. Bob. |
