I am trying to restore a 1976 that has not been ridden since 1991. I don´t know what originally shut the bike down, but the paior owner was working on the starter. I have had the starter repaired but when trying to kickstart the bike without a battery I was unable to generate a spark on either side. Is it necessary to connect a battery to generate a spark?
