The proper pod filters will have a slight bend in the neck, which allows for indexed fit so the pods can clear the backbone. Straight pods WILL NOT FIT, even the tapered ones. In a pinch, you could use 45* angle PVC tubing of the proper diameter to mount them, but you´ll have to fab your own boots to go from the PVC elbow to the carb. It wouldn´t be a bad idea to also have some sort of support from the elbow/filter to the frame to keep them from falling off. All this said, you´ll likely lose performance when switching to pods. The CV carbs used on the CB400 were jetted and ported to take into account the vacuum drop over a standard boxed filter. You will also find throttle response sluggish and punchy, and fuel mileage decreased. My advice is stick with the ugly box, or learn to fight carb gremlins forever. |
