I have got exactly the same problem! I just bought the bike with a non-functioning starter, which I had fixed. But I then have the same symptoms as you. I noticed that if I push it start it it might start the next time. It seems like there is a position in which it wont be able turn the engine. The 1100 hundred should be the hardest to turn so maybe the starter motor is marginal.
