Handlebars hitting Tank???

Hey guys, just a quick question, on my 94 cb1000, i find knicks in my gas tank that are apparently coming from my handlebars hitting when they are turned all the way to either side. I understand that the obvious solution would be to just not turn the bars all the way, but its a lot easier said than done. Just wondering if anyone has noticed this problem and found a solution. Thanks
