Battery issue (I think) |

Hi all: Please forgive me for the long-winded post...I figure too much information is better than not enough. I´m the proud owner of a 1986 FZX700. I installed a Factory Pro Stage 3 jet kit, new spark plugs, fluids, and a Yuasa Super Sealed MF YTX14AHL-BS battery a year ago, and I kept the battery on Battery Minder trickle charger for that year to keep it (I thought) in shape for when I could begin working on the bike again. I also kept Sea Foam in the gas tank as well as the gas in the carbs to keep the fueling sytem clean. I was able to begin working on the bike again this week, and removed the battery form the trickle charger. After removal, the battery measured 13.38 volts. Left it unconnected to the trickle charger for 4 hours, and when I re-measured the charge, it was down to 12.82 volts. So, I tried to start the bike. Starter motor turned over relatively slowly, and bike would NOT start. At that point, I jump-started the FZX from one of my running bikes, and it started up with no problem. I measured voltage coming into the battery from the regulator/rectifier at idle, and it was 14.5 volts. At 2000 rpm it was 14.95 volts, and at 5000 rpm it was 15 volts. Let the bike run for about 15 minutes, then shut it down and IMMEDIATELY tried to restart, but it would NOT start up again, even though everything was \ |
