Scooter won´t start.

I bought this scooter a few days ago from a friend who had bought it new in April.
The first two days it started fine, but for the last few it won´t. She suggested spraying starter fluid in this indent or something... this worked a few times. Now the engine won´t turn over it just makes starting noises over and over again. I tried kick starting it for close to 10 minutes. No results. Previously I owned a honda Metro, but it was stolen. I seem to be at a loss. Please help!
