I apologize for my english and metric measures. I am french.
I am 57 year old, had a lot of bikes an side cars. I bought this bike after a break of 5 years without motorbike, for city use and little trips.
Sym xs 125 is almost a 125 Honda XL motor in a 125 Honda CG frame.
Plus some upgrades: coated cylinder, electrical starter.
I use a Haynes technical review of XL 125 found as free pdf on Internet for usual tunings.
My own upgrades:
- fork oil grade 15 (instead of original 10)
- real tyres (michelin)
- foam added on the saddle to get a flat saddle, allowing to vary position on long rides.
- bike speedometer with magnetic sensor to have real speed and a clock (the bike you move with your legs, not motorbike)
For hot weather or long rides upgrade the plug grade from 7 to 8 or 9.
The mixture was to lean. I found an air leak due to a raugh surface on the carburetor pipe, between the pipe and the carburetor. After polishing carburetion is OK.
My weight is 95 kg. The usual speed is 85 km/h at 7000 rpm(real speed, 100 on the Sym speedo) an top speed 102 km/h (real, 120 on the Sym speedo)
With the confort upgrades the bike is really different from stock state. I had trips of 300 km a day, on small mountain roads, without back pain. Real pleasure.
The machine is now 1 year and 3400 km old. Every thing OK, except some rust on the exhaust, at the welding points. Seems to be a classical problem.
