Yes, you just have to press the ignition key inwards and the filler cap cover pops up. Underneath are two levers; one for the boot lid and one for the seat catch.
WARNING! don´t try to start your X8 with a crap battery. Make sure it is fully charged first. I tried it with a dud battery and the starter motor bendix got jammed in the starter ring and wouldn´t release. If anyone is interested I can say how i sorted it.
