Failure of suspension control arm

Failure of suspension control arm

I was riding my bike on an Australian country road with my girlfriend on the back when we hit a pot hole in the road. Neither my girlfriend nor I are heavy people. The control arm on the rear suspension bent and cracked the crank case and the ducati dealer tells me the bike is written off; has anyone else had this problem because I think Ducati should help me.
