Speedometer Accuracy?

I am the proud owner of a 1300 vstar i purchased last weekend. So far I love the bike. I have read on the net and noticed that my speedometer seems to read about 5 mph below the actual speed. I had my girlfriend drive next to me in the car and she had cruise on car set at 55 while my speedometer read 50. Has anyone else noticed this or is there anyway to adjust the speedometer.
