I have this bike currently, and it has a notorious starter problem. Inside the starter unit, there are components that are held together by friction, due to the pressure of the case screws. These components are intended to slip if the starter clutch doesn´t disengage the flywheel on firing, thus saving your starter. On older starters, these components will slip under the torque of the starter motor, and need to be fixed. Also, the starter clutch is badly designed, and fails to engage often, resulting in an emberresing and frustrating gear tooth grind. Keeping the battery at full charge helps, but this can be a safety problem as a stall at a red light could lead to difficulty starting. It is commonly known that these starter systems were badly designed and were problematic right out of the factory.
