My ´86 had clutch slip problems from the day I got it (11 years ago). I replaced friction plates..no fix. Friction and steels...no fix. Friction, steel and springs...no fix. All OEM parts. Over the course of fussing with it, I did find that oil type had a big effect on the problem. A ´motorcycle´ oil with high zinc/phosphorus content worked much better than an automotive oil of the correct API spec, but the clutch would still slip. My last choice was to install aftermarket springs. I didn´t want to increase pressure in the assembly (including at the clutch lever)if I didn´t HAVE to, but after a couple of clutches, I put in some Barnett springs. No slip. Problem gone. It´s surprising how much faster the bike is when the power it makes is actually applied to the ground! |
